Ywein Van den Brande (b. 1977) studied law, information science and economics at the Catholic University of Leuven and Groep T (Leuven, Belgium), the Université de Rouen (Rouen, France) and U.C.L.A. (Los Angeles, USA).
He started his career at Peeters Attorneys-at-law, a law firm associated with Ernst & Young (2000-2001). Thereafter, he joined the technology and intellectual property department of Schuermans & Schuermans (2002-2007). He left temporarily to obtain an LL.M. at U.C.L.A. and work with Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp (Los Angeles, USA, 2003-2004).
With his dual background of lawyer and information scientist, Ywein advises both established and start-up technology companies on all legal aspects of their business such as protection and transfer of intellectual property, contracts (distribution licenses, service license agreements, end user license agreements, …), outsourcing, outplacement, and litigation.
Ywein is an active member of the Free Software Foundation Europe and is a member of workgroups on information architecture and usability. Ywein is the author of several legal contributions on law and technology, and regularly speaks at conferences. He is a guest lecturer at Groep T.
